The Creaturefuge

Creating a wildlife refuge to conserve habitat for vulnerable species

What is a Creaturefuge?

A Creaturefuge is a wildlife refuge created by the Kratt Brothers Creature Hero Team! Together as Creature Heroes, we are raising funds to preserve critical wildlife habitat within North America that will serve as a home to an array of threatened wildlife.

We’d love for you to join us and be part of the team every step of the way, as we identify the animals we want to help, fundraise, and create the newest Creaturefuge.

Martin Grizzly Kiss - Creaturefuge

Grizzly Gulch, The Original Creaturefuge

In the late 1990’s, the Kratt Brothers answered the calls of young viewers who continually asked them: “What can I do to help animals?” Many even sent Chris and Martin small amounts of money from their lemonade stands and allowances in the hopes that they could help protect the wild animals they loved. The Brothers quickly got to action and in 2000, they formed the Kratt Brothers Creature Hero Foundation to empower their young fans. A wide-ranging poll helped us focus the efforts on protecting grizzly bears and other North American creatures. The Creature Hero Foundation partnered with kids, families, the Gap Foundation, Old Navy, and the Nature Conservancy to purchase and protect 1,670+ acres of critical wildlife habitat on the Rocky Mountain Front directly southeast of Glacier National Park. The Brothers named it, Grizzly Gulch. This Creaturefuge (refuge for creatures) is located in an important transition zone for the bears between the mountains and the great plains. Grizzly Gulch is one of the last remaining places where grizzlies come down onto the prairies to forage. The Creaturefuge is also home to elk, moose, wolves, mountain lions, mule deer, beavers, and a host of other creatures. Grizzly Gulch was the first wildlife refuge in North America established through kid action, though it will certainly not be the last.
